Best Game       Product Reviews

December 25, 2004 -- the fateful day I had ordered this game, as I had been wanting it for a while, but never actually got around to getting it, and so 12/25/04 I got it, played it, and definitely thought I couldn't love a game more, and I was right, but I recently re-played it, and I loved it even more then back then. This is surely the best game I've ever played, and ever will play. Tales of Symphonia probably takes 2nd to it. The battle system is just so incredible, as are the Bounty heads you defeat for money. I must say, if you're an R.P.G. lover, and you haven't tried this game, please do so now. Actually, even if you aren't an R.P.G. fan, you should still give this game a chance. I can guarantee you'll be satisfied, or at least you better be. I can also guarantee anywhere from 40-50+ gameplay hours. I have no more to say, except I wish for a sequel to it, or an Anime or something. And my last thing I'll say to you is: if you have a GameCube, buy this from online for only $20 now, and I can 99.9% guarantee you'll enjoy this game, and even if you don't have a GameCube, go and buy one for this game. And if you do, others game you should get for it are: Gauntlet: Dark Legacy, Tales of Symphonia, Sonic (if you're an old Sega Genesis fan of them, they have this deal where you get 7 games in 1, which is rather nice, I'd say), and Ty The Tasmanian Tiger.

Skies of Arcadia: Legends is a remake of a game with the same title for the Dreamcast. I never owned a Dreamcast, so I thought I might play it. I became quickly addicted. This is the best RPG for the GameCube.

Vyse, a Blue Rogue, fights the evil Valua Empire with the help of his friends. Yes, the story isn't very oringal. What IS orginal is the ship vs. ship battles. You start with a small ship ('Little Jack') and then later upgrade to a warship called The Delfinus. The graphics are decent, and the story keeps you interested until the end of the game.

This is why you need a Gamecube       Product Reviews

RPGs like this are why everyone should have a Gamecube first, and then an Xbox or PS2. It's an awesome game and definitely would be a big competitor to the big name games like Zelda if they'd put out some more of these. (Or if they had just put it out on something other than the Dreamcast when it was first released.) The characters are well-developed if slightly cliche, (young male hero, girl with mystical powers, wise and battleworn old man - the 'best friend' character is a girl, though, which is new) the graphics are good, the Airship battles are awesome... AND they manage to do the whole 'air pirates' thing without it being all corny and "ARRR matey!". The system of exploring the world in a ship works very well too, and although battles can get a bit repetitive, you can say that of most RPGs, and the magic, special attack, and weapons systems are cool. (I love Cupil! He's a whole side-quest in and of himself.) The plot is the basic RPG template - boy sets out with friends to rescue world from evil empire - but it has some good twists within that overarching theme. There are good side quests, at least one of which gives you more information relating to the main plot, nice cut scenes, and the "Swashbuckling" system is kind of cool - although I think they should have either had more of it or not had it at all. My only real complaint, though, is that it could have been a bit longer - but then, I didn't do all of the side quests, and I hear you can go well over 100 hours if you do.

One of the best things that I can say for this game is that it's the only game so far that I've bought, beaten, and then kept rather than reselling it. I LOVE RPGs, and this is definitely one of the best I've played, right up there with (or even above) Zelda and Final Fantasy.
Strengths: Great characters - Great battle engine - Great       Product Reviews

Great sense of exploration - Awesome music composition

Weaknesses: Story - beat the evil empire. Not original.

This game is a port from the old Dreamcast console, and already well-loved amongst DC owners. Sega renamed it "Legends" to signify that it's been upgraded: The Cube verson has improved graphics & also fewer random battles (thank you), plus extra sidequests.

The story is basically the same as previous RPGs. A good guy (you) gathers a team of people, explores the world, and decides to defeat the evil empire. What makes Skies different is the "pirate style" to the game, that gives the player a great sense of exploration, and also allows a new kind of battle - ship vs. ship - lining up broadsides & firing the cannon! On top of that is Sega's usual polishing - interesting/lively characters, good graphics (even at 5 years old, they still shine), and great music to make you tap your feet.

This is actually my *second* copy of the game. I bought it new when it was first released..... played it..... sold it..... and now I bought it back for half-price. If I had been smart, I would have kept it, but I didn't realize at the time how superior Skies of Arcadia is to other RPGs.

Bottom Line - Buy it. You'll love it. :-)
